Everybody looked happy. There were happy and smiling faces. Rupali’s mother welcomed the groom clan after the doorstep ritual. Jaimin and his friends went to the groom room while his parents went around the marriage hall with Rupali’s mother to take a look at the food preparations as well as greeting the guests of both sides. Jaimin’s mother then went to meet Rupali in the bride room. Rupali seeked her blessings. Seeing this, Rupali’s mother broke down in tears; she had so much going on in her mind. Her heart and soul never seemed at the right place since this morning. Jaimin’s mother tried to console her and calm her down. Rupali also comforted her.
As soon as Jaimin’s mother left the room there was some noise heard outside the room. Rupali and her mother couldn’t understand what had happened. Rupali wasn’t supposed to leave the room, so her mother quickly stepped out to have a gaze at the current happening. After a couple of minutes, she returned to the room screaming softly. Rupali got up from her chair and rushed towards her mother. What she heard from her was a shocker. Jaimin went missing. He was nowhere at the venue. Rupali had a gut feeling, so she ran upstairs where there were other rooms in one of which Hetal was hiding, and only Rupali knew about this room. She knocked Hetal’s room, but no response. Hence, she banged open the door and rushed in. As she had thought, Hetal was missing as well. She checked bathroom and balcony but nothing. However, she found a letter on the side table under a small jewellery box. Rupali quickly opened the box and she found the ‘Mangalsutra’ in it. Then she opened the letter, almost shivering and about to cry. The letter read,
Dear Rupali, you very well know what you mean to me and Jaimin from the day when we met at the cafe. What all you did and are doing for us is unbelievable and even our parents wouldn’t have thought of doing anything like this for us. You shopped for us, you took keen interest in our likings, you are still doing things beyond your limits for us. To be honest, I cannot thank God enough for blessing us with a person like you in our lives who made us brave enough to stand for ourselves. After we met you, we were really inspired and we felt that we have done nothing for our relationship and that you were the one planning things just to make our love turn into a beautiful relationship forever. Your involvement filled us with enough courage that we decided to take this step. We are doing this only because we don’t want you to feel embarrassed in front of the elders. We want you to stay clean and take up this adventure ourselves. We could have easily declared our relationship to Jaimin’s parents but that would have ended up in real chaos and they would have made your life miserable by pressurising you and your mother for doing things that you both were not supposed to. All in all, me and Jaimin have left the venue, and by the time you read this letter we will have already been married at a nearby temple with the help of a few of our friends. We feel really sorry that you would not be present during our wedding, sincere apologies but you know how the situation is. Once we are done with the rituals, we will come over and seek the blessings of our elders. Jaimin will tell his parents that you knew nothing about this plan, so they better keep you out of this mess. But till that time, just stay and be what you are. Oh and one more thing, Jaimin already bought me a new Mangalsutra. This one belongs to you, my dear, and only you should keep it. Thanks again and lots of love.
