Daily Prompt: Rube
(This writeup is based on a few instances and behaviour of people on those instances)
Living an urban and fast life, our thoughts and lifestyle have also gone urban. We live in cities and are well educated. We have all the latest updates on the happenings globally and are capable enough of sharing our viewpoints on the current affairs with anyone. However, unknowingly or purposely we sort of downsize the ones who belong to a very backward or awkward place. Villagers, farmers and many times even illiterates are treated like rubes. We never try to know their experiences or their business, but just because they look a little bit shabby and don’t speak in a language that we consider respectful, we name them stupid and rube and what not.
Has anybody ever tried to have a look into the life of such a rube? Why have they remained so rural and never went modern? If a farmer or a villager is a rube then let us not forget that if he wasn’t one then we wouldn’t be able to enjoy the benefits of agricultural and dairy products. They have expertise in their respective fields and are much more aware of new technologies as compared to the urban souls. More and more students are now showing interest in subjects related to agriculture, dairy, poultry, etc. This isn’t because they are rubes but because they want to make the roots strong and ultimately strengthen the country’s economy by creating more and more job as well as business opportunities.
These so-called rubes understand the geography as well as the climate structure much better than what we do even after we have learned the same in schools and colleges. It is noticeable that these people do not get many illnesses and their lifestyles are also very healthy yet simple. They have very less basic facilities as compared to cities but still we are dependent on them in almost everything. This class of people may be illiterate in education but they are literate in many other fields on which the future of a nation depends.
Hence, before calling them rubes or thinking about them as poor countrymen, peep into their lives and know their struggles which form the pillars of modernism and advanced technology. So, henceforth remember, nobody is a rube or stupid or a country bumpkin. We all have individual talents and skills and we should be thankful and proud of that.
Rise and shine.
